You Got Timberlake

NEW YORK (Feb. 23) -- What can fans expect from Justin Timberlake's summer follow-up to 'Justified'? Everything: nonstop collaborations, no-holds-barred-approach to genre mixing, and much more.

After taking a hiatus from music to launch an acting career -- he's got three movies opening in the next year -- Timberlake returned to the studio to work on his yet-to-be named album, inviting a slew of stars to help out.

"I feel like I'm in a good place with the small cast that I have right now, because they're heavy hitters, definitely," he told MTV recently.

JT's so-called "small cast" includes legendary producer Rick Rubin (who he approached at Coachella after a recommendation from Chris Rock) and Timbaland, who was instrumental in creating 'Justified.'

Black Eyed Peas member Will.I.Am also jumped into the producer chair. The two met while working on the Pea's song 'Where Is the Love.' They had so much fun, they created the production team, Jawbreaker

"Will does stuff on his own and I do stuff on my own, but it's obviously a pleasure when we get to work together, so why not?" Timberlake said. So far, they've finished four songs for the new album together.

"I love working with that dude," Will told MTV at a recent tour stop. "He's pushing boundaries once again. Rhythmically and sonically it's all new stuff, but it's still gonna make you dance. Chicks are gonna love it. That's what's important."

Guest voices on the album include rapper Snoop Dogg and Canadian singer-songwriter Nelly Furtado, whose third disc, 'Loose,' hits the streets in late March.

In contrast to 2002's 'Justified,' Timberlake plays a lot of guitar and piano on this new album. And he's opening the floodgates to all genres, instead of sticking to pop and R&B. "This one, it's more fly by the seat of your pants. ... It's less concentrated to one sound. It's more broad as far as the styles. I wanted to mix in to my own type of thing."

"I was sick of me," Timberlake said about the rush of his first solo album and all the attention that followed. "But I'm over that now. I'm ready to return to your TV 24 hours a day!"
