DJ: Chimney sweeps uh, and the pavements lined with gold upstairs in London, and there, and here I am with some bloke called Justin Timberlake.
Justin: [laughter]
DJ: Welcome to the Galaxy Justin Timberlake always a pleasure.
Justin: Thank you very much.
DJ: Just one second [pauses] Talks in high-pitched voice like a teenaged girl! “It’s Justin Timberlake”]
Justin: [Chuckles]
DJ: You know [pauses cause JT interrupts with “I’m really not that cool.”
DJ: It’s kinda like it was kinda like it was uh being sent to the big master’s office or like a job interview [pauses] you know waiting with everybody else.”
Justin: Right
DJ: I was backstage and you were in the waiting room….
Justin: Oh right
DJ: It was like…
Justin: you guys sat there and they played you some stuff.
DJ: Yeah
Justin: Right ok
DJ: It was cool man...
Justin: Well, thanks.

DJ: Before we move onto that please let me just explain. Right, because I felt really guilty about coming down here to meet you.
Justin: Um hmmm
DJ: Right?
Justin: Okay
DJ: I’ve devised a way for my listeners to ask you questions, okay?
Justin: Okay, VIA you?
DJ: Yep, I’m channeling their love.
Justin: Okay
Justin: Are you going to do an impression like thing?
DJ: No, no, no
DJ: Unless you want me too
Justin: No okay
DJ: So just think of me as Whoppi Goldberg in “GHOSTS”
DJ: See?
Justin: [Laughs] Oh see sure
DJ: Are I’m gonna
Justin: Your gonna channel them
DJ: Yeah
Justin: Okay
DJ: There questions to you. Rachel in Manchester the first one says, “How’d you come up with the new sound of your new tune Sexy Back?”
Justin: I was listening to “Rebel, Rebel” David Bowie. I knew I wanted something danceable, and funky and Tim does both of those very well. As soon as we started messing around with the vocal effect I said why not do my vocal through a guitar amp and we did, and I loved the way it sounded. That’s the mission you know what I mean, to come up with something different enough that people feel like its something new and then it does get better with each listen so I’m glad mission accomplished. That’s probably the only formula I’ve taken from “JUSTIFIED” and applied to this is like keep the song writing the same but try something different with the production.
DJ: It’s sorta like your first album, Charlotte in [couldn’t get name]
Justin: Hi Charlotte!
DJ: She’s going to love that.
DJ: How did you feel when you had success with your first album?
Justin: Terrible
[Both laugh]
Justin: It’s the worst thing that ever could’ve happened
DJ: Its such a drag and uh
Justin: yeah
DJ: Uh
Justin: Where do I go from here?
DJ: You can’t go anywhere.
Justin: Um, no it was completely genuinely unexpected, and amazing.
DJ: Vicky in Wigom wants to know what in your career your most proud of and why.
Justin: You know its great to have a career that’s like I have [laughs] I can’t believe this is my job, you know? I get the question a lot what its like to win all these awards, and its great, and its awesome to me but to me its even more special to me when somebody comes up to you, or you end up in an elevator with somebody you don’t know and they turn around and recognize you and say, “You know what I really like your music that’s the cool thing to me because uh that means its part of people’s lives. That’s way cooler for me to think about in the broad spectrum of the industry.
DJ: Like me and my career
Justin: [Laughs]
DJ: But it’s great because one day we may find ourselves in a lift with Justin Timberlake.
Justin: Well, why not I mean I ride in elevators.
DJ: Well good
DJ: Ahhh, listen what’s the worst chat up line you’ve ever heard? Hanna in Ashton asked that question.
Justin: Uh, sometimes I’m not even lucky enough to get a chat up line. Grabbing or pulling or groping that’s sort of uncomfortable yet arousing at the same time.
DJ: What do you think of Christina Aguleria’s new record?
Justin: I like it. The first time I heard it she preformed it live at the MTV Movie Awards , and I’ve known that girl since she was 12 years old. She’s had those pipes since she was 12 years old. She can wail.
DJ: oh, the vocal pipes
Justin; Yes, yes those are the pipes I was referring too.
DJ: [mumbles ]
Justin: I don’t think she had the pipes your thinking of at 12.
DJ: I don’t know what you mean
Justin: yeah, right, right
DJ: um, Do you think, say hi to Kathy Miller, because she’s a big fan of yours.
Justin: Kathy, where are you?
DJ: She’s in Aldumb [sp?]
Justin: [laugher]
DJ: Do you think Roonie should have got sent off in the World Cup?
Justin: I didn’t see him get sent off
DJ: That’s cool, that’s cool you don’t have to be.
Justin: I love all sorts of sports, but to play is golf .
DJ: Right
Justin: It’s pretty boring isn’t it?
DJ: No, that’s good. That’s good.
Justin: [SARCASTICLY] You’re a liar.
“DJ: No, I’m being completely serious [Justin laughs] DJ clears throat: [laughs] Anyway, um if you had to change your name what would you change it too? To buy us more.
Justin: Uh, if I had to change my name it would be Dillyswampdonkey. Uh, hmm no, I don’t know that’s a weird question. I like my name.
DJ: And then, Nesin Bolsin [sp?] asks a really nice question, “Would you swap fame for love?”
Justin: Any day of the week uh to me fame is something that is sort of not real. I think to me at the end of the day we all take our pants of the same way one leg at a time.
DJ: Well let’s try it now.
Justin: Some people may jump out of them depending on the occasion.
DJ: Well what do you do, if you want to talk about it?
DJ: Do you jump out?
Justin: No, I don’t I take them off one leg at a time [laughs] No I just think the idea of fame is not you know is empty so to speak.
DJ: Well don’t get down Justin.
Justin: It’s just that I need music in the background when I start this. [Talks dramaticly] Fame is a thing that doesn’t exist. Then your supposed to play the theme music.
DJ: Right
Justin: Well, never mind
DJ: We’ll put that in later.
Justin: Any day of the week.
DJ: I’d like to say thank you very much for having you answer all these questions. It means the world to every one of us. Thanks for that.
