The inevitable occurs: Justin's No. 1
It was only a matter of time, and Sexyback's time is now. Justin Timberlake's lead-off single rockets from No. 4 to No. 1 on the national radio airplay audience chart with a 12.2% audience gain, according to Nielsen BDS/Arbitron/Radio & Records data.
This is a tougher achievement than hitting the top of other charts, because it's accomplished by radio airplay alone over a cross-section of pop music formats, not just top 40 or R&B. So to pull it off in 10 weeks (airplay doesn't start at the top like sales; it builds gradually) is quite impressive, and it looks as if the song will be sitting there for a while.
Chingy's Pullin' Me Back falls to No. 2, followed by hits by Ne-Yo, Sean Paul, Pussycat Dolls, Ludacris (hottest song in the top 10), Nelly Furtado, Yung Joc, E-40 and Cassie.
